I started my college career as an interior design student at Kent State University. After a year of drawing floor plans and making models, I realized that I enjoyed the architectural font used for the floor plans more than I enjoyed actually drawing them. My love of type faces and bright colors lead me to the Visual Communication Design program, where I spent 4 long years and earned my BFA in VCD and minored in Advertising. And when I say I “earned” my degree, I mean it.
I love everything about being a graphic designer. Many people don’t know the difference between being a “designer” and an “artist.” Ask my friends. They know because I preach about it all the time. I solve communication problems with organized typography, hierarchy and creativity, which is a lot more challenging than just painting or drawing.
I am very passionate about design. Everything from typography to package design to brand identity. I’m also one of those freaks who will stop in the middle of the grocery store and go “wow, look at the cool spot varnish on that cereal box!” Design is all around and I’m always learning from it and being inspired by it.
Design is only one of the things in life that I love. I also enjoy seeing local bands play on the weekends, traveling, taking photos, eating at fancy restaurants, having a large shoe collection, getting frequent manicure/pedicures, and the list goes on. I like to think of myself as a well rounded person, so I like a variety of things and am open to trying new ones.
I’ve been at AKHIA since the beginning of the year and can honestly say that I enjoy coming to work every day. There’s always a different project to work on and the people I work with are so willing to help with problems and answer questions. Being a smaller firm, there is a great family feel and everyone works well together to collaborate on projects from concept to execution. I am excited to be part of such a great agency.
