Bean bag toss took on a whole new meaning with the 2nd AKHIA Challenge – a cornhole tournament. Like the
Physical Challenge held in March, AKHIA raised money to purchase cans of food for the Akron and Cleveland Food Banks. To enter, each team was asked to make a donation of $30 with all proceeds going toward the purchase canned goods.
“The AKHIA Challenges have really taken off, and we’re excited so many companies have joined in our efforts to support local charities, “said Ben Brugler, executive vice president. “There’s nothing better than having fun while raising money for a good cause.”
With team names like “Corn Stars,” “Rough Cuts” and “Dirty Sack Tossers,” the competition really heated up. Ultimately, “Someone Better” beat out “The Gushers” in a close final game and won the coveted trophies complete with ears of corn. Other prizes were awarded for 2nd place, Worst Team by points in a single game and Best Dressed.
Participants included Mosher Media, Whitespace, OnPoint, Herbruck Alder & Co., Great Lakes Integrated, Roetzel & Andress, Fathom SEO and Kent State University.
The challenge capped off two months of raising money for the Food Banks, starting with the Cans for Clicks to launch the new AKHIA Website. AKHIA donated a can of food for every unique click made on its site during the month of June. More than $1,500 was raised with the support of both efforts.
“We really enjoy giving back to the community and can’t wait to host the next Challenge this fall,” Brugler said. “Our hope is that this event keeps growing so we can continue giving to those who need it most.”
