As a kid, I was an avid reader, receiving hand-made awards from beaming
teachers who applauded my literary selections for book reports. I even wore
glasses with bifocals. Later, I wrote for the school newspaper and
contributed poetry to our literary magazine. It’s fair to say I’ve been able
to recognize – and strive for – excellence in communications for many years.
But I really wasn’t a nerd. There wasn’t a tree I couldn’t climb or a frog I wouldn’t hold. When my friends were asking for
Barbies for their birthdays, I asked for a telescope and a biology kit so I could grow brine shrimp. I also helped my siblings and
friends terrorize local motorists by riding around in a go-cart we made out of my older brother’s old Soap Box Derby car.
When I began my career as a reporter, it became clear that good communication skills and a natural curiosity about the world -
and a touch of daring - had pretty good synergy. Researching technical pieces about steel fabricating were as enjoyable for me as
writing a feature about the local centenarian WWI vet. I loved interviewing people, and their industries provided an endless
source of fascinating information.
It’s no different here at Akhia Public Relations. I not only work with folks from myriad industries, I get to dig in until I know
your business well enough to explain it to any audience. My motto is: it’s probably not rocket science, but if it were, I could
still express it clearly and creatively.
But I’m just one of the many geeks (not nerds!) at Akhia who share a passion for learning about new people, places and things. So
let us get to know you. We might be busy as heck, but no one can accuse of us of being boring.
