I’m too old for peer pressure.

That being said I sometimes feel pressured to do things: 1. Play Trivia Crack (am I the only one not playing it?) and 2. Use emojis.

Don’t get me wrong. There are some great ones. There are a lot of them. In fact, I’m somewhat surprised there isn’t an emoji for the word emoji. And while my wife has proven there is a use for every emoji, my friends seem content to prove there are many uses for the poop emoji.

However, I’m not using them. I don’t know why. It just feels forced to me for some reason. I like them. I think they’re funny when I receive them. But I’m not using them. I don’t draw pictures of my emotions when I talk to people in-person so why should I when I talk in a digital space.

And if emoji’s weren’t enough… now we have introjis. The emoji for the introvert.

By the way, if so many people are dependent on emojis why does a red squiggly line still show up when I type the word?

Science wants you to sleep in and start work later.

Are we on the verge of a pro-sleep revolution? Probably not. There will always be reasons to stay up later (playing Trivia Crack) or get up early (kids). But there’s no way around it – getting less than the recommended seven – nine hours of sleep does a lot more than damage your skin and sex drive. It causes you to be less productive.

The study outlined in this Inc. article shows what happens when subjects slept six hours (and starting work before 6 a.m.) v. seven hour (and starting work between 9 – 10 a.m.). The results are exactly what you think they’d be (amazing what a little more shut eye can do). But the challenge is now on us, as individuals (are we willing to make the sacrifice and go to bed earlier) and as employers/managers (are we willing to offer employees the wiggle room to come to work a little later in exchange for a more productive outcome?
