We are in ChatGPT’s birthday month …

… so it only makes sense that Collins Dictionary announced this week that AI is their word of the year.

The latest:

  1. Last week we learned that President Biden was going to announce an executive order around AI. This week we learned what that entails.
  2. Trick or Treat? Treats! Microsoft is giving out Windows updates (in other words, Copilot is here).
  3. Trick or Treat? Tricks! Hackers are weaponizing AI to use in phishing attacks.
  4. Want to read an article about AI that explains how we got here, gives you a peek into the future and is just really enjoyable? This MIT interview with Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI’s chief scientist, checks all of those boxes.
  5. Not sure how I missed this, but if you’re curious on how AI will disrupt search traffic, this is a solid read.

  6. OpenAI has formed a team to study catastrophic risks. And we’re not talking about the fallout from a Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce breakup.
  7. Don’t want your company using AI? No problem. But you can’t stop your customers. So you should be asking, “What does this mean for my engagement with our customers?"
  8. It’s a little early, given how fast AI moves, but here is Forbes's take on the top five AI trends of 2024.

As a reminder, this is a roundup of the biggest stories, often hitting multiple newsletters I receive/review. The sources are many … which I’m happy to read on your behalf. If there’s one you’d like me to track or have questions about a topic you’re not seeing here, let me know.

Thanks for reading!
